Question asked
- Are the plans announced for the following the wildlife crossings currently being planned as part of the William Hovell Drive duplication: two rope bridges for arboreal and avifauna; three box culvert crossings for ground-welling fauna; and 1.8m exclusion fencing in the vicinity of the nature reserves.
- Will the planned wildlife crossings referred to in part (1) assist kangaroos and macropods to safely cross roads, or prevent macropod/vehicle collisions.
- What is the plan to avoid macropod collisions for William Hovell Drive, given that macropod collisions are a high proportion of reported collisions, an analysis of wildlife callout data from January 2016 to March 2025 on William Hovell Drive indicated that of the 719 reported collisions, 648 of which were macropods, and that it is likely that collisions with non-macropods are underreported for a lot of reasons, but this is still a very strong indicator that macropod collisions are a major source of wildlife/vehicle collisions.
