Answer

(1) The toilet block at central Pine Island picnic area was closed on Monday, 21 August 2023.

(2) The toilet block was closed due to vandalism on Sunday, 20 August 2023 in which taps, cisterns and sinks were all damaged, some beyond repair. Whilst contractors were isolating the water supply to the facility there was additional damage incurred to the main water supply pipeline with valve failures.

(3) While the male toilets at the facility were reopened within seven days and the majority of the damage and failures repaired, the female toilets remain closed with required parts on backorder. The ACT Parks and Conservation Services does not have an estimated timeframe  for when the female public toilets will reopen, as the timeframe for delivery of the required parts to repair the toilets is unknown.

Signage is in place directing reserve users to the nearest public toilets which are located at Pine Island South.
