*The data for 2018-2019 period was recorded in two different systems due to a change of technology. The old system did not report vehicle category. A changeover in systems commenced in April 2019.

The figures do not include the approximately 12,000 booked vehicle inspections annually at Hume Motor Vehicle Inspection station.

(2) Vehicle Safety Standards authorised officers are able to issue infringement notices however do not generally issue an infringement notice for vehicles receiving a defect. Registered operators are required to pay to repair the vehicle and pay for an inspection to have the defect cleared to allow for the vehicle to be back on the road. The key focus of the inspection activities is to ensure that safe and roadworthy vehicles are on travelling on our roads.

(3) There are currently 18 authorised officers.
