Question asked
  1. Without a proportional increase in play space and recreational facilities, the proposed increase in students at Majura Primary School will lead to overcrowding and may contribute to behavioural incidents in the classroom and playground, and this will have flow on effects for student, teacher and staff wellbeing, how is the Government taking these concerns into account, and how will they be addressed in the expansion plans for the school.
  2. Did the Government, in 2022, initially commit $39.3 million for the expansion and modernisation of Majura Primary School, and was this later increased to $51.9 million; if so, given that the Government's Built for Canberra Website currently outlines upgrade plans, can the Minister assure the school community they will still receive the key promised elements, including a new gymnasium/hall and adequate upgrades to existing learning areas and school infrastructure.
  3. Will the Minister reconsider the possibility of building a new school at Majura, given issues around accommodating 300 more students on a constrained site have been a persistent problem at Majura, and recognising that retrofitting comes with significant costs and that early discussions within the Education Directorate explored the option of constructing a new school on the adjacent oval and then repurposing the old site into a new oval.
