Question
(Roads and infrastructure spending)
- Is the roundabout at the intersection of Nudurr Drive and Grampians Street (between Palmerston and Crace) an unfinished exit in the direction of Gungahlin Drive; if so, will the project be completed; if not, why not, given this connection would be greatly beneficial to local residents and the flow of traffic.
- What is the estimated cost of this project.
Answer
(1) The roundabout at the intersection of Nudurr Drive and Grampians Street was future proofed during construction to allow for the potential to extend Nudurr Drive, if the need is justified into the future.
TCCS undertook a traffic impact assessment during 2021 (following an earlier study undertaken in 2012) to investigate and model the surrounding network into the future. The assessment identified that while there’s forecast to be some minimal benefits of providing the potential Nudurr Drive extension for local traffic to access the surrounding network, there are also forecast consequences for the broader network. As an example, additional traffic from the surrounding network would also utilise Nudurr Drive as a through route between Gundaroo Drive and Gungahlin Drive, which may be unfavourable for local residents of Crace and Palmerston.
(2) TCCS doesn’t have a cost estimate with sufficient probability for the extension of Nudurr Drive as historic cost estimates are more than 10 years old (from the earlier 2012 study).
