In relation to reporting by the Canberra Times on 9 March 2026 that School Zone signs are lower in Canberra than other jurisdictions, (a) are the sign blades 25 percent and 50 percent below the minimum 2m heigh called for in appendix D2.4.5 of Australian Standard AS1742.2 2022 that applies to all roads in Australia; if so, (i) is that considered to be a significant amount, (ii) why and (iii) does that leave school children exposed to a greater risk of traffic injury than in all other jurisdictions in Australia and (b) do these signs meet the visibility requirements of section 322(2) of the Road Transport (Road Rules) Regulation 2017 to be deemed to be “on the road”; if not, do they have any lawful status.
