Answer

(1) The current focus is on technical due diligence investigations which will inform advice about the siting for a new stadium.  A timeframe for the final decision is currently not set given the range of inputs required that are not yet known.

(2) Refer responses to question on notice 1744.

(3) The sites considered include:

  • Bruce: Two (2) sites adjacent the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Bruce (Block 4, Section 9)
  • AIS: Besides the phased refurbishment and knock down/rebuild options on the current GIO site, five (5) other sites within the AIS precinct were considered
  • EPIC: Three (3) sites within the EPIC precinct, and
  • Civic: The Civic Pool site was re-visited.

(4-6) The detailed planning required to accurately respond to this question has not been undertaken as the focus is on the technical due diligence relating to alternate sites.

(7) The figures below are approximations only:

  • Carpark A (east of the GIO Stadium) = 1,500 car spaces
  • Carpark B (opposite the Arena) = 975 car spaces
  • Carpark C (north of B) = 380 car spaces available to GIO Stadium (700 on non-event days)
  • Carpark D (West of GIO Stadium) = 200 car spaces (300 on non-event days)
  • Total = 3,055 – 3,475 car spaces altogether

(8-10)  Ensuring good access to the venue, including by public transport or private vehicle, will be an important consideration as design work progresses. The level of detail sought in this question will be considered later in the design process.
